What is on your Christmas list this year?
Since I was a little girl, on my Christmas list was kitchen equipment, tools, etc. This is a glimpse of my Christmas list in my Twelve Years of Christmas.
Every since I was a little girl I dreamed of being a chef and writing my own cookbook. Each year I asked for a different cooking tool in hopes of making my dream come true.
On my twelfth year of Christmas, my parents gave to me, a complete cookbook guide to making French pastry.
On my thirteenth day of Christmas, my sisters gave to me three icing bags, twenty six metal tips, and an assortment of icing powders and sparkles.
On my fourteenth year of Christmas, my grandparents gave to me a beautiful stand mixer, all my own. Soon, the spinning of the beaters commenced; flour and confectioner sugar hanging in the air like the fresh powder of gentle winter snow and visions of sugary cakes danced in everyone’s heads.
On the fifteenth day of Christmas, a kitchen torch suddenly appeared, and was quickly set aflame, my Christmas wish lit up desserts from homemade marshmallows to crinkly creme brûlée.
On the sixteenth day of Christmas, I dreamed of nothing less, than an original BAM! t-shirt, a chef apron and a trip to Emeril’s restaurant in New Orleans.
On the seventeenth day of Christmas, the measuring began, with a surprise set of Paula Deen’s silver measuring cups.
The eighteenth day of Christmas began the tradition of making chocolate molten lava cakes using my new ramekins.
Suddenly, as I grew older, the years quickly whisked by and blended together. Until that special day when there arose such a clatter and I went to my door to see what was the matter. To my surprise, three men with cameras announced that I had made it as one of 50 Masterchef contestants.
On my twenty fourth Christmas year, my Masterchef prize finally arrived, a copy of my cookbook, Modern Hospitality.
As I look forward to my next twelve “years” of Christmas , spending time in my kitchen using the talent the Lord has given me to bless others is at the top of my list.
