DIY Preserved Boxwood Wreath

I love boxwood wreaths. During Christmas time our local Christmas tree lot sold fresh ones. They are absolutely beautiful! I was told by the owner of the tree lot to spritz water on the wreath every few days to keep it vibrant and fresh.

After Christmas, I decided to try and preserve the wreath. I began the search for ways to preserve it. If I had boxwood trimmings, I could preserve them by placing the trimmings in a vase with glycerin and water. After a few days, the trimmings would be preserved and a wreath could be made. Since I already had a formed wreath, I found a second preserving option. This one sounded strange but it worked!

You will need:

1 box Borax

2 bags ground cornmeal

1 large round box or large garbage bag

Instructions:

1.  In a large bowl, combine one part Borax and two parts cornmeal. (The cornmeal cuts the acidity of the Borax).

2.  Sprinkle 1/4th of the Borax mixture in the bottom of the box. If using a garbage bag, lay flat and then sprinkle.

3.  Place the wreath in the box of in the bag.

4.  Sprinkle the mixture over the wreath to cover the leaves completely. Be careful to not crush the leaves.

5.  Cover the box or tie a knot in the bag. Store in a cool place for up to 2 weeks.

6.  After two weeks, remove the wreath from the box or bag. Shake the wreath well to remove the Borax mixture from the wreath.

7.  Hang the wreath and admire.
