I fell in love with lattes when I visited China in 2011 the year after I won MasterChef. I was in Shenzhen for a Southern food promotion at the St. Regis hotel for two weeks. When I arrived, my body was not adjusted to the time difference. I would wake up every day at 3:00 a.m. wide awake. I needed something to help me start my day at 3:00 a.m. haha so I decided to order a latte. Oh my goodness! The latte arrived and it was gorgeous. The visible layers of dark brown coffee and frothy white foam in the clear coffee cup was so visually appealing. I brought the cup up to my lips and took a sip. Creamy…smooth…The coffee with frothed milk was comforting and soothing. I ended up ordering a latte every morning while in China. I didn’t want to return home because I knew I would be back to drinking regular coffee.
Upon my arrival home, I immediately ventured to the store and bought a milk frother. I was going to become an at home barista. haha! It couldn’t believe how easy it was to make lattes! Fast forward 9 years and I am having fun creating flavored lattes. I recently discovered the amazing combination of earl grey and lavender. I decided to steep the tea and lavender in a simple syrup of equal parts Dixie Crystals extra fine granulated sugar and water. The simple syrup aroma with its floral and citrus notes is refreshing and soothing. The flavor combination adds a brightness to the rich coffee. It’s so good y’all!
If you do not have a frother, no worries. I share in my recipe how you can achieve frothy milk without a frother. For the recipe, click here. #ad
