Continue the festivities!!!!! My oldest son loves helping me in the kitchen and he loves the fun of Halloween. We made these Haunted Forest Cupcake Cones. For the tree trunks, I used ice cream cones. Miller and I whipped up a delicious Devil’s Food Cake batter using Dixie Crystals extra fine granulated sugar. We filled each cupcake cone with the batter and baked them in a cupcake pan.
We topped the cupcake cones with a whipped ganache topping. I think it is so much tastier than traditional frosting. The ganache is a perfect way of using your leftover Halloween chocolates. Chop the chocolates and measure them out like you would chocolate chips in the recipe. Melt the chocolate by pouring hot heavy cream over the top. Stir until melted and then allow to cool and thicken. Once cooled completely, whip using an electric hand mixer until fluffy. You can use a piping bag with an open star tip or pipe using a zip loc bag with the corner snipped 1/2-inch.
To create the tree branches, we dipped pretzel sticks in melted chocolate and topped them with black sprinkles. Once the chocolate dried, we stuck the chocolate covered pretzel sticks into each cupcake.
I have another great use of leftover Halloween festivities ingredients. If you served s’mores or a hot chocolate bar, then I’m sure you have plenty of marshmallows leftover. To create a spooky haunted forest, you have to have spider webs. We created these by melting marshmallows in the microwave and then allowing them to slightly cool. Grab a small amount of the marshmallows in your fingers and pull around the chocolate covered pretzel branches. It creates the cutest spider webs.
These are so fun and tasty to create. Add some cute touches with leftover candy corn, gummy pumpkins, etc to continue the haunted forest decor. The best part is making memories in the kitchen with your kids. Encourage your kid(s) to play with their food. For the full recipe, click here for the recipe on Dixie Crystals site.
