Sunday Dinners

My great aunt Ilene and her daughters decided to spend the weekend at the beach for their last vacation before the children had to begin school. My parents and I had to make a quick trip to Hattiesburg so we decided to eat lunch up there. We went to one of our favorite Southern restaurants, Movie Star. I am a lover of almost all vegetables and they know how to cook them well. Butterbeans, turnip greens, corn, peas, mashed potatoes, and more. Then there is their meatloaf which has a candy like topping tomato topping. SO GOOD! All that can make this meal any better is a piece of crusty cornbread.

Better a meal of vegetables where there is love…Proverbs 15:17

After a comforting lunch with my family, we ran our errands and then got back to church. My mom and I have volunteered to help with the meal for the kids participating in AWANA, bible study program.

My mom has been wanting to capture a picture of cows/bulls to enlarge for a canvas picture. Driving down the curvy, tree lined road on my way home from church, I saw these beautiful creatures. I had to pull over and snap some pictures. After running up to the fence, I couldn’t believe how still they were. It was almost intimidating how intensely they were staring at me even though I knew I had a fence between me and their big horns.

This road brings back many memories because I traveled it almost every day when I was a child. My mom or dad would drive me to my babysitter’s house. I laugh every time my dad tells me this story. “Whitney you would be asleep and then we would round the curve of the road and suddenly pop up as we were passing the pasture with the cows and shout “I love you cows”.” -my dad.
